Tips for our Neighbors

This section is for your comments and suggestions for your neighbors. Please try to limit these comments to items that are of particular interest to the Bridlewood community. Negative comments may require verification of your identity and a written signed statement. The website coordinator reserves the right to not include items that are in poor taste or reflect a conflict of interest. We don't want to use this space for the Ford dealer to say how bad the Chevy dealer is! By submitting items, you are declaring that you do not have a vested interest in a competitor of the subject of your comments.

4/15/05 -- Watch your prices on drug prescriptions.

We all know that gas prices in the East Lake area are higher than the surrounding areas, and we know that Publix is not the cheapest place to shop, but this one shocked me.

 At Publix: over $26.00   At Sams Club: $9.48 !

Because of my insurance plan, I got stuck buying a 30 day supply of my blood pressure medicine without insurance coverage (while I waited for the insurance people to mail me my pills.) For fun, I asked Publix for a quote for the pills. Sams Club had the info on their webpage, but it was so much lower that I thought it was a mistake! I just got back from the store and -- it was no mistake.

If you have to pay for your prescriptions, shop around.

Both McDonalds and Burger King have a "senior coffee" -- it is not on their menu boards, but is way less expensive than their regular coffee.  So, get old, ask for a "senior coffee" and save some money.

• The Board is getting more and more complaints about neighborhood dogs and cats not being properly controlled; getting into neighbor's garages and eating their pet's food; and "doing their business" on other people's lawns.  Please adhere to the "Pooper Scooper" law and clean up after your pet when walking them to help keep our neighborhood looking great.  Pinellas County Law states that animals must be under leash or voice control while on their owner's property and must be on a leash when off the owner's property.  The owner of any dog or cat found to be running at large within the county is in violation, regardless of the knowledge, intent or culpability of the owner and is subject to a $500 fine.  The leash control requirement is also covered in our Deed Restrictions.
  
• Some residents are putting trash out in plastic bags.  Vultures and other animals are getting into these bags and causing quite a mess while also encouraging more animal scavenging.  We encourage residents to use hard plastic containers for trash.
  
• Also, please make sure that parked cars do not block sidewalks as these are considered a public right of way.  The main concern here is safety - a blocked sidewalk forces people walking out onto the street to compete with cars and trucks and we all know that is not a fair competition.  As well, vehicles are not to be left parked on the street overnight. 
  
• Please be aware that the Sheriff has been ticketing cars in other neighborhoods.

Cleaning tip: Although this tip by Cheryl is not Bridlewood specific, it is so useful that I have included it here.

"The Works" toilet bowl cleaner cleans rust stains off of almost any surface.  Just apply, let sit, add a little elbow grease and wash.  Also, oatmeal helps blot oil stains on the driveway.

Halloween -- numbers of trick or treaters:

1999 Sunday --- about 40

2000 Tuesday --- 39 The weather was good.

2001 Wednesday --- 38 Ok weather.

2002 Thursday --- at least 54 with cloudy but decent weather. We had 54 goblins when we ran out of candy and turned out the lights at 8:45 pm. In past years we had "closed down" at 9:00 pm. so there may have been a few more than 54 in 2002 !

2003 Friday --- 29 trick or treaters. The weather was fine, it was a weekend, but not much activity this year.

2004 Sunday --- 39 trick or treaters. Weather - excellent: warm and clear.

2005 Monday --- 41 visitors. Weather -- excellent, comfortable and clear.

2006 Tuesday -- 25 visitors.  Weather -- excellent, comfort and clear.  No explanation for low count this year. No large
                                                 groups of teens as we have seen in some past years.
